Hey Baerndorfer, I have the rigol ds1054z, it would be a cheap monthly cost to get the mso5074(if the hack still works with that), but do you feel like you get a lot more out of it than a norm scope?

baerndorfer posted this 24 September 2023

when i buy hardware which is castrated in functionality by software, i have a problem with that.

Jagau posted this 01 October 2023

The hack allows you to go from 70 MHZ to 350 MHZ

to have functional power analysis software

to have an MSO (Mixed signal) instead of a DSO

and 3 real-time shape analysis software

Protocol Analysis, Waveform Generator and Power Analysis

Do you think we will get more for the price of a 5074?

Bearn has the ideal scope for research

Yea I just looked at the details, I'll be ordering one this week probably. I didn't realize it's capabilities.

Hi

As an example look at one of the images that Bearn sent in a post recently wath can do the

Power analysis software

Real Power, Apparent power, Reactive power on same view, wow

This avoids a lot of calculations, everything is done in the software instantly, beautifully

On a 70 Mhz scope we have 5 ns rise time, 100 Mhz 3.5 ns

on a 350 Mhz 1 ns rise time , wonderfull.

They are to solve the software problem of vertical resolution at 12 bits

in my opinion it is a very good scope. actually i have 4 of these and all are 'hacked' to perform better.

to be honest i've had problems with one scope since beginning. when i switch it off, it did not remember settings from channels and basic stuff. so i have to set some parameters which takes about one minute and then i'm ready to go. maybe there is a tiny battery somewhere that should be changed. who knows 😎

i use the scopes for at least 6 hours every day. all are connected to network and i use the HDMI-port to bring the display to a bigger screen.

i'm happy!

a last thing! it took me days to find a USB-stick, that works on this scope. the oldest one that i had works! a 2GB noname stick.

Thanks guys, I have a Rigol MSO5074 that should be here in a week, it just so happened that it became 20% cheaper($799) which made it even cheaper than the mso5072(technically the same scope). So im excited to try it out. Other than the ZPM(which isnt together at the moment), I wish I had more circuits setup to test this with. Maybe if I have time I'll pull some older circuits from the past to test it with 😁. Sorry for not posting anything too useful lately, 1hour/week just isn't enough time, especially trying to wind coils to do some SBC circuit test with information available on it.

Hi Bearn

Do you think the new ones with the last new firmware version v00.01.03.00.03

can the upgrade be done with what you provided??

Or it absolutely takes version V00.01.03.00.01

According to Rigol lower upgrade is not supported!

i think it will not work. have not tried it with the newest firmware. think you should downgrade first to firmware from archive and then go on with the procedure.
