If you think the electric and hybrid cars are something new, actually they existed comercially since 1890.

Until the Big Oil cartel killed them...

In 1902, a young electrical engineer from Denver developed a generator that could draw electricity from the air to start a car. The inventor, one Earl Ammann, called his invention "the atmospheric generator". The Denver Post outlined the revolutionary technology in its August 8, 1921, issue:

The apparatus is a compact, cylindrical object with two small brass balls protruding from the top. Inside, Ammann says, is a system of steel wires and minerals designed to extract electricity from the air and liquefy it for use as propulsion.

"My engine simply draws electricity from the air. It works everywhere except when completely submerged in water. The car is just a test. My generators will light the buildings, eliminating steam turbines and all the costs associated with them."
