Hello,

In the last weekend we installed a new commercial-grade SSL certificate which will enahnce the security/encryption of the connections between our server and your computers:

During this process the email notifications had a short period of malfunctioning so if you didn't received some notifications during that period this is the reason and we apologize.

This is a commercial-grade SSL certificate valid for one year.

Until now we used free 90-days certificates similar to the ones used by the old site:

Since when we came online we made sure we have A-class encryption for the communications between our server and your computers:

Unlike the old site which is still using vulnerable encryption protocols:

And vulnerable encryption ciphers:

Unlike what you see above related to the old site, the encryption used by our server makes sure the data exchanged by your computer with our server cannot be hijacked, decrypted and read by hackers, your internet service providers, governments, intelligence agencies or any intermediary servers the data is traveling through on internet:

To be honest, in my opinion there are some U.S. agencies (like N.S.A.) which have the capacity to crack and decrypt the 256-bit encrypted communications but that would require some effort for them to do it, even those entities can't do it instantly.

We're doing everything possible and we're using any available technologies to ensure the security and the safety of communications between our server and our members or visitors.

Regards,

Fighter

Tell me Fighter,

as I don't have a lot of computer knowledge, could you explain to me the function of an SSL certificate?
I know you are competent in this field, try to explain it to me in easy to understand terms, thanks

Hi Jagau,

There are many things (like for example domain validation - making sure that the communication between your browser and our server is not hijacked and directed to a fake server), but the most important for us is that the SSL certificate allows the creation of an secure encrypted communication channel between our server and the browser installed (for example) on your computer.

This is an overview on how this secure encrypted channel is created and how it works:

You can find more details here:

https://www.cloudflare.com/learning/ssl/what-is-an-ssl-certificate/

But a short answer would be: an SSL certificate contains a public key and a private key (this last one kept only on our server where the certificate is installed) and this pair of keys can be used to create a unique encrypted channel between our server and your browser which...

makes sure the data exchanged by your computer with our server cannot be hijacked, decrypted and read by hackers, your internet service providers, governments, intelligence agencies or any intermediary servers the data is traveling through on internet

I hope this short explanation answers your question, that's why we need the SSL certificate - for showing that our server is the legitimate BeyondUnity.org server and for creating an encrypted channel so our server can securely communicate with each of our members and even with ocasional visitors.

thank you
