instead of 2.2 meg and 4.7 meg you can place small adjustable pots at this resistance value and so you can experience various voltages with the circuit and various flash levels, and maybe found something new to experiment?
I ordered variable resistors.
They are difficult to find both in the same store, the only place where I found them was TME:

You can also take adjustable pots of 5 meg and even a 10 meg, whatever is available to you and adjust it to the correct ohmic value of 2.2 and 4.7 that will do the job. That's how I worked in the beginning.
I say this to help other experimenters who want to reproduce if they don't have all the resistors on hand. I also recover various electronic devices in which there are a lot of parts available like this kind of pots and others. I give a second life to these components. It is really worth recovering these components

If you would like, would you be so kind as to give me a little sketch of what you are saying, I will find it easier to advise you.
As a starting point if you take just 4 diodes connected in a bridge with no circuit, the two AC of the bridge to earth, you should have a DC at the output of the bridge of 10 volts and more. To have best resutl diode shouldbe very fast diode like UF4001, small signal diode as 1n914 do not work well.
